Our experience at Fargo's FBC was extraordinary thanks to our nurses. Specifically, Kristie, who was my nurse for the majority of the day. During the admission process, Kristie was by my family's side the perfect amount. Going in, I was unsure of which pain relief options I wanted. Kristie provided education on all of the possible options and was willing to help guide me in making my own informed decision on what was right for me. When I was scared for my epidural, she was there to comfort me and help me through. She provided information to my family (as I requested) when appropriate and even gave us fun ideas for my son.
Kristie made an effort to get to know me. I informed her I was also a nurse at Sanford Health. This did not phase her or make her treat me any differently. She still educated me at an appropriate level. Although a nurse, this was a new experience for me and I was a patient that day. I so appreciated her effort at making me feel this way. As a nurse, I became nervous watching my vital signs. Kristie was an excellent patient advocate by paging the doctor and politely providing possible solutions. She also had thought she noticed scant amount meconium and requested the NICU team be present at my birth to be safe. Throughout this entire process, Kristie remained calm, which helped me remain calm and helped me trust her with my care.
After Kristie was done with her shift, it was undecided if the NICU was going to be present as it was unclear if meconium was really seen or not. Ultimately, they did come which I cannot be more thankful for as my son struggled slightly. What touched my family, even more, was Kristie coming to say hello and provide support on our day of discharge. For her to follow through and think of our family was the best way to leave the hospital as a new family of three. We thank Kristie for the exceptional care!
