My husband has been in and out of the MCA multiple times this year. He clearly received a higher standard of care due to the efforts of his primary daytime nurse, Kristin.
Kristin provided care for my husband in a compassionate, caring manner that honored him as a person rather than a burden. She was always willing to answer family member questions and address even the 'littlest' of our concerns. She consistently communicated with the attending physician and corrected medication inconsistencies quickly.
For example, on the morning of his third day, he had not had a bowel movement yet. He suddenly woke up and requested help going to the bathroom. Kristin went to assist and they both realized there was no time to make it to the toilet, so she had a colleague grab a bedpan. Kristin handled the situation with kindness and humor, which made it more comfortable for my husband. Due to his difficulty breathing, even this was effortful and tiring for him. However, Kristin acknowledged this as a successful moment and a 'to do' item for the day that had now been accomplished! Her positive energy was consistent throughout his stay and was a comfort to my husband, myself, and our family. Thank you for the opportunity to recognize her.
