Kristin Large, RN

Kristin Large is a compassionate, dedicated pulmonary nurse in the outpatient clinic assisting the pulmonologists with their every need. Kristin was removing a pleurex catheter from a patient with one of the pulmonologists. Because there was a lot of scar tissue, they were unable to dislodge it. The patient needed to go to the OR to have it removed. In the meantime, there was an emergency that the pulmonologist had to address before removing the pleurex. The patient began to bleed excessively and he had no caregiver with him. Kristin could have left the patient in the care of the outpatient clinic nurses, but instead, she held pressure on the site to prevent bleeding for two hours and stayed with him until he went into the OR at approximately 7:30 pm. Because of her actions and support for the patient, he was able to get the catheter out and be home in time for his annual fishing trip with his sons.
