Our father was admitted to SNICU after having surgery due to a spinal cord injury. We were there starting on Thursday evening and he was transferred on Saturday. We were fortunate enough to have Kristin as our nurse on Friday and Saturday. From the start, she was extremely friendly. She was always happy to answer any questions we had. Considering the circumstances, she made it as comfortable for us as possible. There were some underlying factors that came to light after my father had his fall. One of them was his addiction to pain medication. This came up before we came to Iowa City. And this is where I think Kristin went above her normal duties. She suggested and then made arrangements for a drug addiction counselor to come and talk to all of us. By her taking that step, it got the ball rolling far sooner than what would have happened. It helped a lot because I could see my father saying he doesn't need help after everything is said and done with surgery. By her doing this, we got the dialogue started from the get-go and will be able to continue throughout recovery and after.

Thank you, Kristin, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
