She must have spent 30 minutes thoroughly cleaning blood from my mother’s hair and explaining everything to both of us.
Congratulations to Kristin Seklecki, RN, CEN, TCRN, of our Emergency Department! Kristin is our Q1 2025 DAISY Award Recipient. Kristin was nominated by a patient’s son who stated, “My mother was admitted to the ER for a serious head injury, from fainting, and a concussion. She suffered amnesia as a result of the concussion, and her head was bleeding. This was a very confusing time for my mother and me. Her amnesia made her forget things from one moment to the next, and she was terrified as a result.”
That’s where Kristin came in. “Kristin is an amazing person. She gently talked to my mom with such compassion and care. The amnesia caused my mother to keep asking the same questions repeatedly, ending in a cycle of panic, not knowing where she was or what was going on. Kristin informed us it’s very common, yet temporary. She calmed my mother as she carefully cleaned all of the blood out of her hair. While doing so, Kristin kept telling her that it was alright and reassuring her. She must have spent 30 minutes thoroughly cleaning blood from my mother’s hair and explaining everything to both of us. I’ve never experienced that level of care from a nurse, and I can’t thank her enough for her compassion. She went ten extra miles to help her. You guys really have a gem in the ER.”
Thank you, Kristin, for caring for both our patients and their loved ones with true compassion.
