I believe the relationship Kristina has fostered and the commitment she has shown saved this Veteran's life.
Kristina and I have been following this 89-year-old, 100%SC, Veteran in Team Red for the past few years. This Veteran is 50% SC for PTSD and has a history of refusing treatment for this. The Veteran is very prideful, and often not forthcoming with what is going on with him physically or mentally.

Kristina has developed an incredible rapport with the Veteran's wife. Before the Veteran woke up yesterday morning, his wife called Kristina. His wife stated he was expressing thoughts of suicide, with a plan, the night prior. This was very unusual for the Veteran.

Kristina stated she would call back when the Veteran was awake. The Veteran's phone was not working when Kristina called back. She stayed persistent and continued to try until she reached him.

Kristina talked the Veteran off the ledge and encouraged him to come into the Emergency Department. The Veteran trusts Kristina, after years of providing him with diligent, thoughtful care; therefore, he agreed to come in.

The Veteran came into the ED and reported he had tried to take his life twice prior.

I believe the relationship Kristina has fostered, and the commitment she has shown, saved this Veteran's life. This Veteran had the means to commit suicide and could have easily been successful in doing so.

I am hopeful she is recognized for this level of compassion because I am so grateful to be on Team with someone like her.
