She is ALWAYS willing to come in on her days off or stop whatever she is doing to help you during the shift.
I would like to submit my nomination for Kristina Borne (RN in NICU) to be considered for the next DAISY. I have worked with Kristina for years and feel she more than exemplifies everything this award stands for. She is hard-working, dedicated, and a selfless team player. She is ALWAYS willing to come in on her days off or stop whatever she is doing to help you during the shift. None of these things are the reasons I am nominating her, though. If you have had a baby in our NICU in the last several years, then chances are that you have experienced Kristina’s selflessness. She is constantly coming up with new ways to help make the NICU experience enjoyable for parents. As nurses, we recognize how hard it is for these parents to leave their baby in the care of a stranger, especially around holidays. Kristina always does something special for any and all occasions for the parents. Here are just a few of the things that she does for our families: • Mother’s/Father’s day cards • Hand makes all Halloween costumes for babies (each year, the unit has a costume theme, and all babies are dressed in this theme) • Coordinates pictures with Santa/Christmas stockings for the babies • Fake wigs for “100 days old” • Graduation hats/pictures for NICU grads when they graduate or discharge • Personalized name signs for every baby. It is these extra tasks on top of the care she provides that make her the exceptional nurse that she is. This shows her compassion and love for the entire NICU.
