My husband and I were playing tennis when all of a sudden, he had a severe headache. I called 911, and he progressively lost consciousness. When I drove to the hospital, I was praying to God that everything will be okay. But it came as a shock to me when the doctors told me that he had a massive hemorrhage with a 0-3% chance of survival. I was so devastated that I didn't know what to do. But his living will states that if there is no chance for him to live, he wants to be let go. That was a crucial moment for me to decide, but I know I am not willing to let him go, hoping that the Lord will intervene.
When he was transferred to ICU, I met a compassionate nurse who was assigned to my husband; her name was Kristina. She has been an angel to me. She saved my husband's life. I still remember that day clearly. Kristina asked me if I was a Christian. She told me that if I have the gut feeling that my husband will live, and then go for that 3%. To me, those words were an answered prayer coming from God. Kristina was His instrument for making it happen. She stayed and prayed with me during the hardest time of my life, and I thank her for her support.
Kristinahas become my sister in Christ for the reason that her concern is genuine. My husband was airlifted to Loma Linda main and was facilitated promptly. She kept in touch during my husband's hospitalization. I really appreciated Kristina when she also visited my husband during his first day for rehab. We became close and her comforting words and prayers and kept me through the trialed times. Together with my husband's friends from work, she has joined us celebrating his birthday. She is not only the epitome of being a nurse but a person with a good heart. She has shown excellence through her compassionate care and clinical expertise.
As a fellow nurse, she is exemplary to all. Who would have thought that because of her thoughtful text messages with Bible verses and our faith in God, that we would surpass the difficult times? And I would stay strong for my kids. It's been a year now, and my husband is still recovering from the stroke. We will forever be grateful to God that Kristina was there with her kind words and encouragement. We are truly blessed to have her as a friend.
