By the end of my labor, she wasn’t just my nurse, she was my personal doula and my family.
When I was almost 39 weeks pregnant, I found out that my baby had flipped breech. I was sent to labor and delivery to work with a nurse on some Spinning Babies exercises to try and flip him head down. Kristine was the nurse who would help me with this. When I walked in, I was very upset about learning this news. Before we started the exercises, Kristine said, “First of all, how are you doing? Are you okay?”
As I broke down in tears, Kristine listened to me and encouraged me that this story was not over yet. She then taught me some exercises. A week later, I found out my baby had turned head down! However, he was sunny side up. So we were again sent to labor and delivery to do some exercises that would put him in the optimal position for birth. Again, it was Kristine who was there to help. She taught my husband how to do one of the exercises to help and celebrated with us because our baby flipped on his own.
The next day, I went into labor spontaneously. My labor was long, tedious, and discouraging. The nurse who was there through it all was Kristine. She showcased extraordinary care for her patient. Not only did she provide excellent physical care, but she also encouraged me in what seemed like an impossible task.
My husband and I looked forward to seeing Kristine each time we knew we would be working with her. She was very knowledgeable about Spinning Babies and pushing techniques, and we fully believe her help in both of these areas helped us achieve the birth we wanted. I truly do not think I could have birthed my baby without the help of Kristine.
I think the turning point during my long pushing stage was when I told Kristine that I couldn’t do it anymore, and she told me that I was already doing it, and I was doing it well. By the end of my labor, she wasn’t just my nurse, she was my personal doula and my family. She knew exactly what to say each time and was the best nurse that I have ever had. We will forever be grateful to Kristine and how she aided in the birth of our baby boy.
