After my operation, I was ushered into a unit and stayed there for one day. As an aid to my recovery, she called my name in a sweet tone and would tap my shoulders from time to time. This exercise would help me drift into sleep, thus, hastening my recovery. I am a person who is not a model patient. If it is just a minor thing or if I can do it myself, I won't bother pushing a button to call an aide. They fondly called her by a certain name while I was in this room, and she, like the rest of the staff, was always at her working table. But what set her apart is that she constantly glances at the patient frequently. Whenever she observed any discomfort from the sick, she will rise up immediately and find out what is wrong, and render assistance immediately. That is true in my case. I was chilly when was in the recovery room. It was explained to me earlier, the ACU in the room is super cold and there are no means to raise it to a comfortable level. So I never raise it as an issue although I was uncomfortable. She noticed this and acted accordingly. She found out that I had a fever. She administered paracetamol. In addition, she placed an extra blanket over me. As if that was not enough, she put warm water in a bottle and rubbed it over my feet. It soothed my chill. I was transferred next to a different area. It so happened that the next posting of this nurse was on the same ward. Among the factors that contributed to my quick recovery was her personal interest in a patient like me. She pushed me to walk around/exercise the unit every day, which helped me do better every day. The same with the breathing exercises, now I could easily achieve a 2,000 level due to her persistence. Now after 5 days after my heart operation, I'm discharged. What a fast recovery!!!
