Kris has exemplified the DAISY Values on many occasions but one recent interaction in the NSICU stands out. While working with a fairly difficult patient, Kris’s ability to remain calm and connect with this patient ensured that he got the testing that he needed. The patient had previously been refusing a procedure that was needed to help diagnose his symptoms to multiple team members. However, Kris was able to listen to his concerns and make him feel heard which led to him agreeing to the procedure. The results of this test showed that the patient had a life-threatening infection that needed to be treated. As Dr. Z put it, "This patient would not have survived if it were not for the hard work of this one person." Kris’s kindness, persistence, and compassion saved this man’s life.
