We had a patient that we needed to transfer to accommodate surgeries. Kristy was the nurse who cared for this patient and immediately bonded not only with the patient but with the family. This patient had been given a cancer diagnosis and on the day she was being transported to hospice, she asked if Kristy was working, which thankfully she was. This patient needed to see Kristy before she went to hospice because she was afraid and felt Kristy was her guardian angel. This patient even took a picture with Kristy so she could have that memory. This is a great example of why we become nurses and Kristy was that comfort even in this patient's last few days. A true Guardian Angel, a role model for what empathy and real humankindness looks like.
