Despite the business of the ICU, Kristy prioritized the needs of the Veterans and hospital with her willingness to step in and help.
An unfortunate set of circumstances placed me in the role of Nurse Manager and Assistant Nurse Manager while still working in my position as the Unit Based Educator. I was working on filling immediate staffing holes and assisting with the routine needs of the unit. At the same time, I was asked to initiate the education process and training for staff members throughout the hospital being detailed to Unit A (our Covid unit). Realizing that I was juggling many different jobs, Kristy, without being asked, came to 4A and assisted in compiling all the necessary competencies needed to educate the oncoming staff members. She not only helped me gather all the information needed for training, but she assisted in communicating with the detailed staff and informatics to ensure that they each had BCMA and CPRS access prior to their deployment. She assisted with the entire training from start to finish. Despite the business of the ICU, Kristy prioritized the needs of the Veterans and hospital with her willingness to step in and help. Her commitment to the Veterans and those who care for them is above reproach. She advocated for the new staff helping them make the transition from their current roles to their new roles on Unit A. Her understanding and respect of the situation made the educational process easier for all involved parties.
