My father was transferred to the hospital where Kristy Hamann works. We were under the impression that my father would be able to have heart surgery after his pneumonia cleared up. The cardiac ICU was able to get his heart into a stable condition, however, his lungs didn't respond to antibiotics and it looks like he didn't have pneumonia. Unfortunately, we weren't able to determine what was going on with his lungs. My father decided that he knew his time on this earth was near an end, so he chose not to be placed on a ventilator, instead to go peacefully.
As you can imagine, in a short period of time, my family had to adjust to his wishes. During this time we were lucky enough to be assigned Kristy in the hospice unit. She was truly amazing. She not only helped my father come to peace with everything, but also helped our family with all our various needs.
We now know why nurses are called angels, because they truly are a shining star in a dark night's sky. Kristy was able to answer all our family's questions, especially the clinical ones in a very compassionate matter. After only two days with us, we were ready to adopt her into our family! She definitely helped lead us through these rough times. We will be forever grateful! Kristy was truly our angel.
