As an oncology nurse myself, I have supported many patients and families during end of life care. I just experienced this situation myself as a family member and not as a nurse. Kristy was phenomenal! She was kind, caring, compassionate, professional and so very patient.
She was caring for a young woman during her last day of life and comforting her very large family and 2 young boys as well. My niece was not Kristy's only patient, but it sure felt like she was. She was a continual presence during a long shift. She kept everyone informed and did all she could to give this family time to begin accepting and grieving the loss of a daughter, a sister, a niece, a cousin, a friend and a mom.
At one point, Kristy even picked up my niece's youngest son so he could be near his mom and see her over the bed rails. Throughout the shift I watched as she stayed strong in a very stressful and sad situation. I was so impressed with her and our family is so very grateful for all of the kindness and care she provided. Kristy made that day as comfortable as possible for both her patient and our family and we all are so very thankful for her.
