My brother was admitted via the ER. He is being taking care of at home by our eighty-year-old Mother who has Dementia. I have been through all kinds of social service networks to try to get help so my brother could get the help my mother isn't able to give but won't admit. My mother and brother came to visit me, I live here in Greenfield they live in New Castle. My brother was very sick, and I checked his blood sugar. It was so high it wouldn't register on my machine. I convinced her to bring my brother to the hospital here.
Labs were checked, his blood sugar was 712 and Hba1c of 14.8. He was admitted. Our Nurse who greeted us with a warm friendly smile was Kristy Moore-Franco. She was kind and professional. I felt at ease with her. I was very upset that my brother was in this condition. Kristy could tell my Mother's mental state was foggy. I explained to her my mother has Dementia. She instantly took charge. She was vigilant about explaining very carefully to my Mom every task she performed. She talked to me about making sure she would document very thoroughly about things she noticed about my Mother.
For example, Kristy noticed and documented my Mother trying to put a cookie in my brother's mouth. Just another example of my Mother's Dementia. Kristy saw that my husband and I were frustrated with my Mother. She called the Hospitalist to the floor to talk to us. Kristy gave me her cell phone number when she knew I was leaving for the night. She told me I was welcome to call her anytime during her shift that night. I later saw her down the hall, she wasn't his nurse that day. She smiled at me. I told her she is my Angel. She smiled so caring and hugged me. She is truly a wonderful nurse who went above her call of duties. She will never be forgotten by me, or her beautiful smile.
