Kristy went back and sat with the mother, sitting at her bedside, providing support and education, and assisting her with pumping to provide her ill newborn her milk.
This nurse is a phenomenal bedside nurse and leader who is proficient in multiple care areas. Nearly every shift she works, we receive patient compliments about her kindness, compassion, and thoroughness, especially with patient connection and education. Her kind spirit resonates with her team and patients alike.
Recently, she was helping care for an ill baby whose mother was in ICU for medical complications. The baby needed to be transferred to a higher level of care, and because of her medical condition, the mother had never seen her baby. This nurse went to ICU to explain and discuss the baby’s care and need for transfer. She coordinated with the ICU team to assume temporary responsibility for the patient. She escorted the mother to NICU so she could see and hold her baby prior to transfer and emergency life-threatening surgery.
The next day she went back and sat with the mother, sitting at her bedside, providing support and education, and assisting her with pumping to provide her ill newborn her milk. She sat and discussed and explained aspects of the critical newborn’s care in a way the patient could understand. All of this was in addition to her assigned duties for the day. She called on her days off to check on the patient too, assuring she had the support she needed.
Because of this nurse’s gentle approach and compassionate spirit, she has made it her mission and assumed “duty” to visit any patient with any unexpected outcome with the goal to provide patient support, answer questions, and align with any needed resources the patient may require given the circumstances. Her efforts have served to improve patient connections, patient support, and patient satisfaction. This nurse is a total asset to our team, and the story above is just one of the many stories where she truly goes above and beyond to live our mission and exemplify our service standards. She is a true DAISY Nurse.
