Kristy is a true credit to the profession, and I learned so much from her, which empowered me as a new mum, and I felt so supported when she was on shift.
My baby and I had to stay in the ward for 5 days due to my getting an infection during labor, followed by a traumatic delivery, and I found this very mentally and emotionally difficult as a first-time mum. As well, my baby had a lot of issues with feeding while on antibiotics, and this was very stressful for both of us.

Kristy was on the ward for three shifts during our time there, and she truly went above and beyond; she helped me to get my baby to latch successfully and supported me in managing his periods of crying on minimal sleep, and she didn't mind the many times I buzzed for help doing this. She also identified that I was unwell from my bleed during delivery and ensured I got my blood tested. Kristy noticed when I was at rock bottom emotionally and helped me to move into a side room when one became vacant.

On a particularly difficult morning, she brought me some coffee and toast and gave me a pep talk about what I really needed to get me through the final couple of days before discharge. Kristy is a true credit to the profession, and I learned so much from her, which empowered me as a new mum, and I felt so supported when she was on shift. She was on hand to help and took full accountability, and I was treated with so much kindness and support during really low moments, which I will never forget. I think my difficult experience of delivery and being kept in the postnatal ward could have broken me down, but the support I received got me through the 5 days. I have since recovered very well with a healthy and happy baby boy, and I know I could do it all again if I had to. Thank you so much to Kristy for believing in me and being there during my most vulnerable times.
