She really cares about her patients and made me feel like a person and not a number on a chart or just a puzzle to solve.
Krysta is an amazing nurse! I was admitted for severe pain related to cancer. When I came in she had to wait for a doctor to give orders for my meds but she stayed on top of it and checked constantly and brought my meds as soon as the orders came through. My IV that was started at a different hospital kept occluding so she quickly started a new one on my other arm. She is highly skilled and was able to quickly find a better vein. I am a difficult stick because I have bad veins that roll, blow, and collapse easily. The radiation I did last year pushed me into early menopause and I had a terrible hot flash that lasted hours. When I called she came and lowered the thermostat and found a fan to put in my room to help me cool off. She asked a lot of questions about my recent cancer diagnosis and what treatments I did, and the side effects. We talked about the possibility that some of the side effects from my treatments last year could be the cause of some of the pain I am currently dealing with. She ran these ideas by the doctors and other medical staff that were on my case. She always explained everything that she was doing and what medications I was getting and what they are for. We talked about my children and how they are handling this. My girls are 10 and 2 years old. She asked me to find her on social media so that she can check in on me and make sure that I'm doing well and that the new pain management plan is working. She really cares about her patients and made me feel like a person and not a number on a chart or just a puzzle to solve. I was transferred to the hospital Tuesday morning and released this afternoon (Friday). There was some concern about whether or not some authorization forms would go through in time for my insurance to pay for my medications, but she stayed on top of it and made sure that I wasn't discharged until everything was settled. She truly is deserving of this award because she is an exemplary RN and cares about the people in her care.
