My son has had numerous surgeries and hospitalizations at CAMC W&C. We have become very familiar with the staff there. The first time we had Krystal Fankhauser as our nurse she was very compassionate, knowledgeable and made us feel comfortable and that we were in good hands.
From the beginning, Krystal knew why we were there, explained to us the goals to be achieved, and signs and symptoms to look for. Many of our stays were very stressful due to complications from surgery, or serious illnesses. Krystal always demonstrated outstanding clinical skills that seemed beyond her age.
After our 7th surgery, we did not have Krystal as a nurse during our visit. She knew we were there, though. She stopped by and visited, and while she was at the door, my child remembered her and waved frantically. This meant a lot since he is extremely terrified of anyone who wears medical clothing and is only 14-months of age.
On our last stay after our 8th surgery, we were fortunate to experience care underneath Krystal.
We were actually sad when leaving since we do not plan to have any surgeries or hospitalizations anytime soon. We do know if we do, and Krystal is there, we will be in good hands and will be taken care of with the utmost care. She is a true role model and displays compassion and interpersonal skills with patients that you don't learn, you are born with this.
