She also went to the gift shop and purchased a string of Christmas lights as a distraction for the patient. I take care of this patient every day, and I could see how excited she was to receive this small gift!
I am a caregiver at a nursing home and I was so happy to see that nurses, like Krystal, are still taking care of patients with love and kindness. The resident that she cared for that day had surgery on her teeth and is not able to express herself, as she cannot talk. Sometimes taking care of her can be hard because she has so many delays and developmental barriers. However, Krystal talked to her in a very gentle manner, and made sure she was calm, comfortable, and wasn’t afraid in these new surroundings. She also turned down loud noises, turned the lights off, and made sure the patient was warm. She also went to the gift shop and purchased a string of Christmas lights as a distraction for the patient. I take care of this patient every day, and I could see how excited she was to receive this small gift! Not only did she take care of the patient, but she was kind to me and made sure that I felt included in the care plan. Before this resident and I headed back to the facility, Krystal made sure to go over the discharge instructions thoroughly, showing me how to care for the patient’s teeth, and also made sure that all of my questions were answered. Even the ambulance drivers mentioned how nice Krystal was to them. I believe she deserves this award for her kind nature, and for how much she loves those who cannot speak for themselves. This resident has been through so many difficulties in her life and is often overlooked because she cannot express her needs. God bless Krystal for her care that day!
