My mother was a patient on 2B following a shoulder replacement. Her surgery went well, but she developed multiple complications including pneumonia. She was debilitated, and IV access was difficult to obtain and maintain due to her condition and the medications ordered. The night that she was diagnosed with pneumonia, she was restless, and her continuous movement occluded her IV. Krystal knew how important the IV antibiotics were, so she sat at my mother's bedside and held her hand, talking to and comforting her so that the medications could infuse. I was not made aware of this until several days later. The next evening, she was transferred to another unit due to a decline in her status. Krystal came to visit us on the new unit to make sure Mom was doing well and tell her the staff on 2B was thinking of her.
These acts of kindness were above and beyond what we expected and meant a great deal to us, especially considering that Mom wasn't Krystal's patient, but she saw the need to help her co-worker and a patient. Since that time, I have heard many other stories of how Krystal frequently goes above and beyond to provide the best care to the patients at Bayhealth.
