I have been a nurse for almost 7 years and I have been blessed to have incredible nurses teach me and care for me the few times I have been a patient. I gave birth to my firstborn son. It was before Thanksgiving. The entire unit was so amazing. I did not even notice it was the week of Thanksgiving. Being a nurse, I was worried the nursing staff would expect me to know how to completely care for my newborn son. Krysten Gomez was my nurse during the day, and I could not have been more blessed than to have her as my nurse. She was also charging and managed to give me all the attention I desired. I felt safe having Krysten care for me and my son. She provided me with tips and taught me in a way that allowed the teaching to stick! Going home I felt prepared caring for my newborn son because of the time Krysten took to give me excellent care. Krysten, despite being the charge nurse and taking patients, took the time to wheel me down to the lobby and waited for me while my husband got the car. She helped us put our son in the car seat and taught us the best way to place the car seat in the car! I wish I could list all the great things she did, but I believe she deserves this award because she is simply a nurse who cares and makes the patient her priority.
