A patient was brought to the ER by EMS for an assault, and Krystle was one of the first medical providers to see the patient. Krystle established that the patient had emotional and physical needs that required attention. In addition to those needs, the patient spoke limited English and required an interpreter. Initially, the patient was hesitant to speak about her assault, but because of the kindness and emotional support Krystle provided, a rapport was built, and with time, the patient was able to have the courage to speak to law enforcement agents. The care and comfort that Krystle gave to the patient that day was above and beyond normal care. During the care of this patient, the nurse was emotionally involved and would come out of the room with tears about the stories the patient shared. I personally witnessed this nurse overcome her emotions and perform her nursing duties with the highest standards. As a healthcare provider, I feel this nurse went above and beyond the care of her patient both physically and emotionally.
