Kyan sat with the patient and held his hand and prayed over him while he was dying, she stayed with him until the end.
Kyan had a patient who was going to be terminally weaned. When the mother of the patient arrived, she told Kyan that she wanted nothing to do with her son's death or to be there and she left. Kyan sat with the patient and held his hand and prayed over him while he was dying, she stayed with him until the end. At the time Kyan was precepting a new nurse so she was very busy, but she took the time and compassion to stay with that patient so that they would not die alone.
Her compassion and care for her patients are above reproach. Kyan loves to teach and is involved in the critical care education committee for MICU, and she started the MICU's Code Blue debriefing committee, this is a committee where the goal is to improve the outcomes of codes. Kyan developed a role system for codes that greatly improved how codes are run. Kyan always advocates for her patients, she is an exemplary nurse and deserves to be recognized for her compassion, care, and nursing skills.
