May 2026 Honoree
Kyana Calvo, BSN, RN
Dear Kyana,
We wanted to take a moment to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the relentless, attentive, and truly compassionate care you gave our daughter.
Over the course of four months, we were hospitalized three separate times—one day during the first admission, three days during the second, and five days during the third—all while our daughter was only four months old. During nearly every stay, we were fortunate enough to have you as our nurse, and each time you remembered us and our daughter. That alone meant more to us than words can express.
You consistently went above and beyond to care not only for our daughter, but for our entire family. During some of our most stressful days, you lifted our spirits with your kindness and encouragement. You brought us coffee and water without us ever having to ask, and you even offered to order food for me while I was breastfeeding. You thoughtfully made sure I always had everything I needed, including nursing pads, nipple covers, breast pump supplies, and sanitizing supplies. Those seemingly small acts of kindness made an enormous difference during an incredibly overwhelming time.
The care you provided our daughter felt deeply personal. Whether you were gently suctioning her, advocating for her needs, calling in specialists when necessary, or keeping us informed every step of the way, you treated her as if she were your own. Your attentiveness, proactive approach, clinical judgment, and genuine compassion made us feel completely safe and supported throughout every hospitalization.
One moment that especially touched me was when you noticed that my daughter and I were wearing matching pajamas. It was such a small observation, but it reflected the way you truly saw us—not just as another family in a hospital room, but as people. Those thoughtful moments are something we will always remember.
We have never experienced such thoughtful, attentive, and deeply compassionate nursing care. Your ability to remember us, anticipate our needs, and care for our family with such warmth made an immeasurable difference during one of the most emotionally difficult seasons of our lives.
We are so incredibly grateful for you and will always remember the comfort, kindness, and exceptional care you gave both us and our daughter.
Thank you for being the kind of nurse every family hopes to have.
