Kyla Raby, ADN
Kyla exemplifies the very essence of nursing excellence. During an exceptionally busy shift, she assumed care of a critically ill 28-week-pregnant patient experiencing seizures, severe complications, and profound personal challenges. Despite the situation's complexity and emotional weight, Kyla consistently demonstrated extraordinary compassion, patience, and advocacy.
Throughout the night, she remained calm and attentive, finding creative ways to comfort and support her patient, whether sitting with her during moments of distress, taking her on wheelchair rides to ease her anxiety, or simply being a constant, reassuring presence. Her dedication extended beyond clinical care as she advocated for the patient, communicated with family, coordinated with providers, and attended to every need with kindness and dignity.
What stood out most was the bond she formed with her patient, shown through the trust and gratitude the patient expressed despite being largely non-verbal. Kyla's commitment was so profound that she specifically requested the patient again the following shift to provide continuity of care.
Kyla's unwavering compassion, professionalism, and selfless dedication during an incredibly difficult circumstance embody the spirit of the DAISY Award. She went above and beyond, leaving a lasting impact on her patient, colleagues, and everyone fortunate enough to witness her extraordinary care.
