Kyle walked in, introduced himself, tucked me into my bed for the night, and told me that I was safe. These words, while simple, meant the world to me in that moment.
From the moment I was admitted to the ICU Kyle was there providing some of the best care I have ever experienced. My visit was, unfortunately, due to attempting to take my own life; this can sometimes be looked down upon and stigmatized. Kyle walked in, introduced himself, tucked me into my bed for the night, and told me that I was safe. These words, while simple, meant the world to me in that moment.
I never felt like a burden when he was caring for me, which has happened in the past. Some ICU nurses are all about the sickest patients, intubated, sedated, etc. I could tell he cared for all his patients the exact same no matter the diagnosis or outcome. Kyle made sure that I knew I was in charge of the care I received while also strongly encouraging certain things and giving reasoning for why and how it would benefit me.
In that darkest part of my life Kyle was able to bring a smile to my face, distract me from my sadness, and help me remember why staying alive was so important. On my last day, even though he wasn’t my nurse, he made sure to spend a few minutes with me, which helped tremendously in easing my anxiety about my upcoming inpatient stay. Kyle really did provide the most extraordinary care. Thank you so much; it meant the world to me.
