Kyle was one of E's nurses during some of our darkest days. In June we had our first open heart surgery. He let us cuddle all morning. Leaving E at the OR room I almost collapsed. Kyle understood as a fellow parent that I was doing one of the hardest things a new mom ever has to do, leaving my 5-day old daughter in the hands of a stranger. Understanding that they would need to stop my daughter's heart to give her a chance at growing up. He gave me strength when I didn't have any. Kyle sat with me while the doctor explained the surgery to me. He found me tissues to dry my tears and E's octopus to calm my soul. Every hour he called me with an update. If nothing changed, he reassured me that she was doing well. The phone calls made a long day seem shorter. Kyle understood that seeing E with a delayed chest closing was frightening. He is an amazing nurse and especially good at handling the emotions of parents on a surgery day.
