I received the phone call that no parent ever wants to receive. My son had been involved in a serious accident and was being flown to RMH. Once we arrived, we were told that his back was broken in several places and that he was going to need emergency surgery on his stomach. Afterward, he was admitted to a room. We encountered several nurses the first few days, and then there came Kyleigh.

She has been a godsend to my son, who is very young. She was the most patient and caring person. She took the time to explain everything she did for him, and this is exactly what we needed in this devastating time. He would be aggravated and become hateful, and she remained to be so caring and determined to help him and take care of him.

Every time she left the room, she would be sure to ask me if I needed anything or if I had any questions. Before leaving for vacation, she took time out of her busy day to make some motivational posters for my son, telling him to be brave and that he can do the hard things. Also, one about a growth mindset to encourage him.

Not remembering that she was going on vacation, my son asked for her the very next day and was disappointed that she wasn't going to be here. She truly is the best, and we are forever grateful for her and her compassion. It takes a special person to be a nurse, and she surely is that person.
