Kyra Agresta, BSN, RN

Kyra was working inside, checking patients into the ER, triaging, when security came in and said that someone had just fallen outside. Kyra quickly leaves and finds a man on the sidewalk. She checks his pulse, which she says felt thready at first, and then she lost it. She immediately begins CPR. Now, to anyone who thinks, well, this is what you are supposed to do, right? Yes, it is, but out of work, the context can sometimes feel unfamiliar, your solid ER nerves can abandon you and leave you questioning everything if you begin to panic.

Thankfully, Kyra was there and doing the right thing at the right time! A couple of minutes after she started chest compressions, more staff found out what was going on and came out to assist in getting the man into the department, onto a stretcher, and into the resus room, where CPR was continued, the man was shocked twice, and regained consciousness! A little while later, he was talking with the staff! From death to life. Without the quick thinking and critical actions that Kyra performed, this man wouldn't have survived. After commending her on taking charge and going into action, she humbly responded, "It takes a village; we all saved this man."
