Kyra made an extraordinary impact while caring for a patient with a long and complicated medical journey. The nominator, who has worked as a nurse for almost 19 years and holds very high expectations for nursing care, described how this nurse stood out among the amazing nurses at WakeMed.
She entered the room with empathy and urgency, thoroughly assessed the patient, immediately addressed her pain, and resolved two days of medication reconciliation issues within minutes. Though these were standard nursing tasks, she performed them in a way that felt like she was caring for her own family.
What stood out most was how she knelt beside the patient, spoke gently, and adjusted her delivery so the patient could see her face and feel her presence. This helped the patient feel comfortable expressing her needs without feeling like a bother. She anticipated needs effortlessly, practiced excellent clinical technique, and never missed a beat. Her presence brought immense comfort and exemplified truly extraordinary nursing.
