I was admitted to the hospital from the Emergency Department with a diagnosis of sepsis. I was not assigned to Kyria Neal. But Kyria came by my room and was checking on me and told me if I needed anything to let her know. Kyria and I are also co-workers in Interventional Radiology. That morning the nurse checked my bp and it was low at 80/64. Then my doctor also came by, and it was 70/40. He stepped out of the room to start getting some things going for me. In the meantime, I called Kyria because I knew my status was changing. She immediately came to my room. She assessed the situation and took action. My doctor decided to place me on a levophed drip due to my bp 64/40 and no CCU beds were available at that time. Rapid response was called. Kyria who is also a Neurocritical Care nurse started the drip for me on the floor and monitored me.

I myself have been a nurse for 19 years and I know what comes after a rapid response. I was scared and constantly asking Kyria what my blood pressure was, and Kyria just kept trying to reassure me everything would be ok. It is a quite different experience when you are on the patient side of things. I firmly believe if it was not for Kyria's quick actions and assessment that day I would not be here. I am honored to work with a nurse like Kyria and more thankful to call her a friend.

Thank you, Kyria K, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
