This team of nurses got me through a 55-day hospital stay for a high-risk condition. Why are they deserving? It wouldn't all fit here!
To summarize, they made my nearly 8-week stay on L&D not only bearable, but comfortable, easy, and even fun. They took nursing and patient-centered care to a new level. When my skin broke out in a rash from too much monitoring gel, they came up with lotion. When I was desperately trying to entertain myself with puzzles, they brought me a more comfortable chair and desk lamp. When my emotions were high, and I missed my family, they comforted me and checked in to see how I was doing. When I needed a new IVs (18 total) and had limited veins left, they worked as a team, planned it out, and came up with creative methods to get the best spot. They worked together to ensure my antepartum stay was the best it could be.
These nurses prayed with me, laughed with me, cried with me, took care of me, and became my family when I needed it the most. Spending two months away from your own home and family is beyond difficult. It's the hardest thing I've ever done, and I couldn't have done it without the amazing L&D nurses, particularly Doris, Lindsay, Tricia, Laura, and Lauren. Jessie was instrumental in my IV success! Each nurse above had half a dozen days/nights during my stay.
They provided consistency in care and nursing - getting to know me and my schedule, and my soon to be born baby. The level of nursing skill was always exceptional, and the level of care and concern beyond my wildest dreams. From the bottom of my heart, I'm beyond grateful for their kindness, care, compassion, and skill to get me through my pregnancy. I'm pretty sure they all even checked in on me on their off days to make sure I was still ok! It doesn't get more remarkable than that. They truly exemplify what this award means through their patient care and compassion, their teamwork, and their nursing presence. I'll never forget my journey and the nurses who cared for me, and how lucky my daughter and I are to have had this experience.
