My daughter entered St. Francis at 23 weeks pregnant to deliver a baby she already knew she would not be bringing home.

During one of the most traumatic experiences our family has ever faced, the nursing team provided care that went far beyond anything we could have expected. From the moment we arrived, they offered tenderness, reassurance, and a level of compassion that made an unbearable situation feel just a little less lonely.

Simple gestures, like acknowledging our baby by name and making space for him in the room, meant everything to us because they validated his life and our love for him.

Throughout labor, the nurses remained constantly present, attentive to my daughter’s pain, respectful of her choices, and unwavering in reminding her that she was in control during a time when so much felt out of her hands. As delivery approached, the team responded with confidence, urgency, and remarkable coordination while never losing their caring touch.

After the birth, they treated our grandson with such gentleness and dignity as they cleaned, wrapped, and prepared him to be held and photographed, creating moments our family will carry forever. In the midst of unimaginable heartbreak, these nurses made us feel seen, supported, and deeply cared for. They shared in our grief, surrounded both families with compassion, and made us feel like we were the only people in that hospital who mattered.

Their extraordinary kindness and humanity helped guide us through the darkest moments of our lives, and for that, we will remain forever grateful. From the bottom of our hearts, we want to thank the entire team for the outstanding care provided during the labor and birth of our first baby.

Although you may not remember us, we will never forget the group of caregivers who made that night so meaningful.

I had dreamed, prepared, and prayed for a natural birth from the moment I found out I was pregnant, and despite labor beginning in a way I had not imagined, every person involved showed incredible compassion and respect for my wishes.

Even with my water leaking for three days and the need for induction, I was continually reassured and guided toward the least invasive options first. Throughout labor, the team went above and beyond to preserve my birth plan, ensuring I could remain mobile, comfortable, and confident instead of feeling pushed toward interventions I did not want.

As labor intensified, the nurses and providers became true coaches, helping both my husband and me through positioning, breathing, and natural pain relief techniques with calm, hands-on support. What stood out most was how every new step was explained, and my permission was always sought before trying anything different.

That simple but powerful respect made me feel fully in control of my body and my labor experience. Because of this team’s advocacy, kindness, and unwavering presence, all of my hopes for bringing my son into the world became a reality. They gave me the best birth experience I could have asked for and set the stage for such a smooth recovery afterward.

When I think back on welcoming my sweet baby boy at 4:38 a.m, I will always think of the extraordinary team who stood beside us and helped make that moment perfect.

Thank you for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
