Laci is beyond an incredible nurse. She truly embodies all of the ideals of the perfect caregiver. We have had a patient on our floor for a few weeks now who has received some difficult information regarding their health. Laci has been taking care of this patient every shift that she has worked since the patient was admitted. Laci always goes beyond for all of the patients she cares for, but really provided the best possible care for this patient in particular.

Laci worked diligently with all of the collaborative physicians and other members of the patient’s complex medical team to meet all of the patient’s needs. When the patient received a bad report, Laci was right there by her side to cheer her up and did just that. So much so that the patient asked Laci to stay the night with her after her shift was over. Instead of a slumber party, Laci arranged for a pizza party for the patient, buying her pizza and dessert. Laci sat and ate with the patient for her lunch break. This is just one example of how amazing Laci is to her patients.

Along with the pizza and dessert, Laci brought new toiletries—bath gel, lotion, and room scent for this patient. The patient was so happy and her room smelled like the beach. Laci provides every one of her patients with personalized care. For the ones who are unable to write out a DAISY nomination, the ones with no family, the ones who go to SNF or Hospice, the ones surveys don’t go to, I have witnessed these acts so many times as I worked with Laci.

One man said, “Why are you so good to me?” and another that she still worries about. She remembers patient names and she realizes all the patients are someone. She treats them as she would want her family treated. Laci pushes me to be a better nurse. She is a true patient advocate. Laci Spencer is an extraordinary nurse.
