Words are hard to find for what she did that morning for my mom and me.
My mom had been in the hospice house since February of 2024. She had excellent care there. My mom had been declining since December 17th. Over the past week, it was more evident. They had changed her status to actively dying, and we were dealing with that as a family.
Over this past weekend, she declined more. On Monday, January 20th, Lacie came on duty and changed the status to imminent. On Tuesday morning, my mom was declining even more, she had what is called the death rattle, hard to describe until you experience your loved one going through that.
Lacie gave my mom the necessary medications and sat in the room with me for 30 to 40 minutes, which felt like a lifetime. She comforted my mom and me, letting me know my mom was okay and not suffering. She then did a PRN dosage of medication, which helped after a short period of time.
I could not have gotten through that without her. She is the most amazing nurse and person I have ever met. Words are hard to find for what she did that morning for my mom and me. Truly, the most difficult thing I have ever been through.
