Lacie was assigned to a patient in the AICU who had some behavioral challenges. Lacie did a phenomenal job of caring for this patient! At one point, the patient’s sister needed to leave, and the patient became very upset. The patient got up out of the bed to chase after her sister, then sat down in the hallway crying in the unit. Lacie, very calmly, came and sat next to the patient, acknowledging and affirming the patient’s feelings. Lacie spent 15 minutes sitting with the patient, first consoling her, then redirecting the conversation to other topics to take the patient’s mind off her sister leaving. Lacie then expertly guided the conversation toward an activity that got the patient to her feet and back into her room.

Lacie approached this situation with such grace and expertise. I was so impressed. As someone with a special needs child, I’m so thankful to know that there are nurses out there like Lacie. Thank you, Lacie, and great work!
