She looked into nonpharmacologic resources and found the pressure point that she could use to relieve the hiccups. She attempted to pressure on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the veteran no longer had hiccups.
A veteran who had suffered multiple strokes had returned to the unit after suffering another stroke. This stroke left him with gross impairment such as apraxia, dysphagia, and increased R side hemiplegia. The veteran had intractable hiccups related to his CVA. Multiple medications were attempted with no change. Medical staff (APRN and MD) consulted PMRS providers for ideas. LaDeedra Jackson knew that the veteran previously was able to eat peanut butter and it helped the hiccups significantly. However, this inpatient stay was different because he could no longer swallow. She looked into nonpharmacologic resources and found the pressure point that she could use to relieve the hiccups. She attempted to pressure on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday, the veteran no longer had hiccups. It has been two weeks, and the veteran is still hiccups-free. LaDeedra ALWAYS goes over and beyond for the veterans on 3C. She is such a great asset not only to the unit but to the VA CAVHS system.
