The thing that struck me the most about Gladys was that her demeanor and even her tone of voice were kind and caring.
I had spine surgery at Pelham Medical Center. The first smiling face I saw was my nurse Gladys. She was kind, caring, attentive, and very knowledgeable. She answered all of my questions about the precautions I had because of my surgery. As someone who takes a lot of meds, I liked the fact that she went over all the meds she gave me, and also my name and DOB to ensure I got the correct ones. As I am a mental health therapist by profession, the thing that struck me the most about Gladys was that her demeanor and even her tone of voice were kind and caring. Something that is a must in both the mental health field and the medical field. I could tell that Gladys LOVES her job and truly cares about the patients. The typical anxiety that I'm sure comes with most patients who have surgical procedures just melted away because of Gladys's care. Then I was lucky enough to have her on Day 2 as well. I'll always remember her! My mother was a nurse for over 50 years and she passed away in September 2021 from COVID. I have learned that even when you're 57 years old, you want your momma when you are sick or in pain. So even though my sweet momma wasn't here, Gladys was the next best thing!
