My mom was in DePaul last week. When your team found out that my mom was going to turn 90 on her discharge day, they started marking "I will be 90 in 3 days" on the whiteboard in her room. My mom has dementia and usually cannot answer the question, "How old are you?" But she woke every morning and read the sign in her room and was looking forward to her pending birthday. Each morning the nurse updated the board until finally, it said, "I am 90 today."
Lakeah went out of her way to bring joy to my mom's hospital stay and showed extra compassion in making her feel special on her birthday (even getting her a birthday card).
No one wants to be in the hospital on their birthday. Even though your team was plenty busy they took the time to make my mom feel special on her birthday. My family was blessed to end up in that room with that team. I think it is important to recognize exceptional service when you see it and that is why I am writing to you.
