Laken gathered up a team of nurses and bought some candy, balloons, bags, and toys to bring over to the little girl who was waiting for her mom to come to the ER.
Laken was with her intern today on the trauma side of the ER. We had a 4-year-old little girl who was brought in from a car wreck. Unfortunately, the wreck resulted in the death of the father. One child was found in the back seat of the car, fully restrained. However, this little girl was found outside of the wreck with major damage to the car. Both siblings were sent and activated due to trauma criteria. The 4-year-old little girl stuck through it all and was actually uninjured. She kept telling the nursing staff that, "There was a lot of blood on daddy, and he is dead, isn't he?" So, Laken gathered up a team of nurses and bought some candy, balloons, bags, and toys to bring over to the little girl who was waiting for her mom to come to the ER. This small gesture shows the remarkable care that the family received while here in the emergency center. Showing this compassion towards this little girl who does not fully comprehend what is happening with her father but knowing that there were kind nurses who took care of her, played with her, answered questions (even hard questions), sat and watched over her until she was released into the care of her mother. This treatment improved the overall impact of this patient, even if she and her sibling are too young to understand. Small gestures make huge impacts. Great work!
