I was struck by her professionalism, her ability and willingness to explain what was happening to my father, and the way she was able to comfort me and my family.
In September, my father was admitted to the ICU at the Heart Hospital. I truly thought we had lost him. He had developed significant fluid around his heart and lungs and by the time I got to the hospital, I thought I was too late. One of the first people I met was LaKeva Grigsby. I was struck by her professionalism, her ability and willingness to explain what was happening to my father, and the way she was able to comfort me and my family. She was kind and informative. She was never condescending even though we had difficulty understanding the diagnosis and treatment. LaKeva made a point to check in with us even when she wasn't working! I mean, who does that? My father has since recovered but it's been a long few months. LaKeva and I had exchanged phone numbers and following the scare with Hurricane Ian, she checked in just to say we'd been on her mind. Again, who does that? I cannot express how grateful I am to LaKeva for seeing me and my father as people, as a family which had been scared by the thought of losing someone we love. I can't even imagine being a nurse. I have huge respect for what you all do every day. LaKeva is so deserving of this recognition. Thank you for providing this opportunity to express our deepest gratitude.
