LaKquesha Gaffney truly exemplifies a servant’s heart and leads with compassion in every aspect of her work. In her role, she regularly contacts patients post-discharge to schedule follow-up appointments.

Recently, during one such call, she noticed the patient was tearful. The patient shared the heartbreaking news that she had lost her baby and became inconsolable. Demonstrating exceptional empathy and presence of mind, this nurse ended the call promptly and went directly to the unit to inform the care team of the patient’s distress.
She also requested that the chaplain be contacted and stay with the patient, offering comfort and support until the chaplain arrived.

Her compassionate response in such a difficult moment truly went above and beyond, making a meaningful difference for the patient in her time of need. This nurse’s kindness, attentiveness, and dedication perfectly embody the spirit of the DAISY Award.
