When Lamar learned of the situation, she did not hesitate to offer a ride to the woman as soon as she could safely end her shift.
I nominate Lamar Pellegrin, RN, for the DAISY Award with the utmost respect and admiration. During a recent shift, a tearful mother was in a state of panic after her child was involved in a severe accident. She accompanied her child in the ambulance to St. Anne Hospital, but the child was later transferred via helicopter to another facility. Having ridden in the ambulance, the mother had no way to follow her child to the next location. The mother attempted to contact family members for a ride but became hysterical when they refused to get her. Desperate, she asked everyone she encountered about other transportation options, but there were no public transportation options in the rural area around St. Anne Hospital.

When Lamar learned of the situation, she did not hesitate to offer a ride to the woman as soon as she could safely end her shift. The woman gratefully accepted, and after her shift, Lamar brought the mother home to her vehicle so she could travel to be with her wounded son. This is only one of the countless selfless acts that Lamar has performed in her extensive nursing career. She has also been a treasured friend and mentor to me during my nursing education, consistently going out of her way to assist her fellow healthcare workers. Additionally, she frequently brings food for the entire ED team! Lamar is a distinguished example of everything a nurse should be. The superlative compassion and empathy she displays are greatly complemented by her expert knowledge, wisdom, integrity, and dedication to ensuring that every patient receives the outstanding care they deserve at the hospital.
