June 2026 Honoree
Lamisha Mamun, BSN, RN
Lamisha Mamun showed extraordinary compassion, dedication, and humanity while caring for a young patient with metastatic ovarian cancer in the critical care setting.
As a critical care provider, I have had the privilege of working alongside many exceptional nurses, but Lamisha’s care stood out in a profound and unforgettable way.
This patient was nearing the end of her life, facing an incredibly difficult diagnosis at such a young age. Despite the intensity and demands of a busy unit, Lamisha consistently went above and beyond to ensure that her patient was not only medically cared for but also seen, heard, and cherished as a person.
On a beautiful spring evening, after what had already been a long and stressful day, the patient expressed a simple yet deeply meaningful wish: to go outside and watch the sunset. Without hesitation, Lamisha coordinated everything needed to make this possible. She gathered a wheelchair, managed all essential medical equipment, and safely escorted the patient outside. In that moment, she gave her patient something invaluable. She gave her peace, dignity, and a chance to experience beauty at the end of life. It was an act of kindness that transcended routine nursing care.
The following day, Lamisha continued to create moments of joy in the face of grief. She took the time to paint the patient’s fingernails, an act that may seem small but carried immense emotional weight. The patient’s face lit up with joy, and she smiled in a way that reminded all of us who witnessed it of the importance of human connection.
Shortly thereafter, the patient passed away. While we could not change the outcome, Lamisha ensured that this patient’s final days were filled with compassion, dignity, and genuine warmth. The smiles she brought to this patient will not be forgotten. Her ability to blend clinical excellence with profound empathy is the very essence of what nursing should be.
Lamisha’s actions exemplify the spirit of the DAISY Award. She did not just care for a patient. She touched a life in a lasting and meaningful way. I am deeply grateful for the care she provided and proud to work alongside her.
Thank you, Lamisha, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
