Lan Nguyen is one of the kindest people I have ever met. While most of the staff, nurses in particular, at Penn have been good people, many of whom went above and beyond to ensure my physical comfort, Lan saw my depression (more accurately a sadness that has always been deep in my core) and she took extra time to shine light on my positive personality traits that I tend to ignore. She checked in on me regularly, not only what was happening to me physically, she repeatedly pulled me out of the pits of disgrace I would begin to sink into.
Every time I was prepped to give up, Lan would remind me of the good I contribute to the world, along with the people (family) and things (pets and garden and indoor plants I love like pets) that need me in their lives; for without me to take care of and love them, they too would slip from this Earth. Her positive attitude and reminders that I am loved and needed to change my perspective of my life and its worth. This is not even mentioning her phenomenal medical care. She went above and beyond in every way.
