Lana has certainly excelled in this position and is highly respected by all who cross her path.
A champion is an individual who is dedicated to improving the work processes of a company to improve a greater level of service to others. A champion is exactly what I think of as I write this DAISY nomination. Lana has certainly achieved this goal as the hospitalist coordinator. Lana has dedicated her role to improve not only the relationship between hospitalists and nursing staff, but also the relationship with area SNFs. Whenever there are discharge questions on a SNF patient, facilities will call Lana for clarification. Many times, these clarifications can be quite time-consuming, which is a huge weight off the unit’s shoulders! When I work in the House Supervisor role, I know I can always count on Lana to help with any calls that I get regarding death certificates. Lana is so knowledgeable on this subject and communicates professionally with providers (whether they are on shift, or not) the urgency to get these completed in a timely manner.

Have you ever taken a complaint from a patient or loved one that they are unhappy with the care they are receiving from a provider? Lana has such grace when tackling this sensitive subject and produces a plan that both the patient/loved one and the provider can agree on.

Many of you may not know, but throughout the pandemic when the number of hospitalists that we had working on a day shift would fluctuate, Lana put in countless hours outside of her “normal” 0800-1630 shift to ensure all patients on a hospitalist team were accounted for, and that each hospitalist team was fair. This meant that Lana would stay late to make sure the One Call team had all the information they needed to redistribute patients, or she would call into the One Call office between 0500-0600 to ensure her instructions were understood.

Lana has collected valuable data that the hospitalist team has utilized to present to the administration regarding the need for additional hospitalists. This data also helped to secure maximum “encounters per day” for each hospitalist so they don’t get burned out. Lana has certainly excelled in this position and is highly respected by all who cross her path. She deserves to know that all her hard work and long hours have not gone unnoticed. Thank you, Lana, for everything that you do for our patients, nurses, and hospitalists!
