Lani came in with a Rosary that she had made out of mask strings and zip ties. The patient said that Lani was her saving angel as she would not have had her Rosary to pray with and take with her prior to going for surgery.
As I was providing care for my patient, she asked me to find her Rosary that a nurse had made for her. The patient began to tell me about how she had woken up with an anxiety attack last night. She was trying to get out of bed when Lani came into the room and stopped her. The patient had just suffered a femur fracture from falling down the stairs earlier that day. Lani reassured and consoled the patient. The patient said she asked for her to look for her Rosary because she wanted to pray before going for surgery and also keep it with her during the surgery. She said Lani could not find it. A few hours later, Lani came in with a Rosary that she had made out of mask strings and zip ties. The patient said that Lani was her saving angel as she would not have had her Rosary to pray with and take with her prior to going for surgery. The patient went on to tell me about how exceptional Lani's care was and what an impression she made.

I want to nominate Lani because this is a perfect example of holistic and passionate care. Regardless of the many tasks during her shift, she went out of her way to assemble this patient, something very important for her spirituality.
