Lani tried different tips and tricks throughout the day and got things to progress. Lani was there teaching me, comforting me, and it all worked.
It was nearing early evening and I had been at the hospital for about 14 hours. My husband had gone home for a couple of hours to collect some belongings as we had not had a chance to do so. My contractions were becoming stronger and more uncomfortable. I had plans for a C-section but after talking to my sister about having to visit the baby in the NICU and having a 2 1/2 year old at home we started talking about a VBAC. Lani came into the room and introduced herself, wrote her name on the board, and came over to my bedside and with the warmest welcome said she would be caring for me. She sat down next to me and said "I would love for you to tell me about you, H". I will never forget that moment as it brought tears to my eyes as I thought to myself, WOW this woman really cares. I have never felt so cared for in such a genuine way and what was most important was it came during a time when I was trying to make a major decision. I talked to Lani about what my sister said and she explained to me the process and how it could be really helpful in my situation to try a VBAC. She advocated for me and kept me informed, Lani left at 7 PM but said she would be back at 7 AM. Things progressed and my husband asked what he could do for me and I asked him to bring Lani back as that is what I needed. When I woke the next morning and heard a knock on the door and a huge smile came to my face as Lani walked in. We were both excited and she said "H, let's have this baby today." Lani tried different tips and tricks throughout the day and got things to progress. Lani was there teaching me, comforting me, and it all worked. We welcomed our baby girl into the world. To this day I believe I had the best VBAC experience because of Lani. People like her are rare to come by and I am so lucky that I was blessed with her care. Thank you for being you and thank you for giving me the most comforting and unforgettable birth experience. I will forever be grateful and will never forget what an amazing nurse you are.
